This pitch is connected to a personal project of mine, which I have been working on for the past two years. It centers on a group of friends in the fictional town of Cedar Crook, Minnesota, who investigate various mysteries while searching for signs of the supernatural. When a classmate comes to them for help with what appears to be an actual haunting, the group excitedly throws themselves into the unknown. However, the group finds themselves in serious trouble when they realize they are dealing with an actual spirit, who nearly kills them. After steeling their nerves, the group puts the spirit to rest, and decides to continue their work, unaware that they’re being followed by a dangerous supernatural force. This would simply be the pilot episode for a twenty one episode season, which would follow the group as they solve more mysteries and fight various threats
I chose this kind of story to tell specifically because it connects to my personal life. I would often spend time investigating creepy things with my friends, searching for the unusual in a somewhat burning world. I also chose this story because it’s filled to the brim with ghost stories, myth’s and legends, and horror. Shows or stories that were meant to terrify have played a massive part in who I have become as a person. They also serve a way to examine certain aspects of life such as greif, death, fear, or social injustice. Finally, the medium I would use to present this story would be 2D animation, which gives me a feeling of nostalgia and could look like it was pulled straight out of a comic book or old fable. 2D Animation could also be modified to craft a truly frightening atmosphere, creating an air of unease with a medium we do not see as much of today.
When preparing this pitch, I was given a budget of $5,000, which is diffuclut to spread between a team working on an animated pilot episode. I have been working on the story for years, so I am comfertable with working as the Director, Writer, Head of Story, Concept Artist, Character Designer, and Storyboard Artist. I can also provide my team with a workplace, stable desks, comfortable chairs, a computer, and a television for work I would then use 1,750 dollars to pay the episode’s main actors and 615 dollars to pay the minor actors, paying them each 250 and 205 dollars, respectively. I would then spend 1,250 dollars on animation, paying the animator, compositor, effects director, layout artist, and lighting artist 250 dollars. I would then use 1,000 dollars to pay the editing team, paying the lead editor, editing assistant, composer, and sound designer 250 dollars each. I would then spend 380 dollars on animation equiptment, using 80 dollars to pay for 5 stylus, 250 dollars for 5 graphic tablets, and 50 dollars for an animation program. Finally, I would try to use the left over 5 dollars to pay for lunch, which might be a bit of a stretch.
